Washing with soap and water and rinsing and drying thoroughly should work.
I would guess since it's a surface phenomenon, 100% plating would show up the same as 100% solid silver.

Silver is the most reflective element and this is a quick and dirty silver test.
What would be interesting now would be to put a piece of single ply tissue paper over the top two rows and see if the silver would show through it...
