I agree. The reverse is really pretty. It probably had some help. Maybe MS70 was used on it. You don't see many IHCs with color.
Stains are tough to remove. I don't think the coin can be helped but I would give it an acetone bath.

Looks real to me. It would look great in a Dansco. Like most Trade dollars, it was cleaned at some point in it's life.

There are some really well struck 1917s out there but none have been found that the services agree with it being a matte proof.
