Surly to bed and surly to rise...
Looks like a die crack to me.
Last box of nickels gave up the following: 4-1940, 1-40D, 1-40S, 2-41, 1-41S, 1-46, 1-46D, 1-48, 1-48S, 1-49, 1-52D, 1-53D, 1-54, 1-55, 1-55D,...
I save these also. But only if the digit is substantially out of line. Minor out of alignment are just too numerous.
I agree they are not worth a premium. But they don't cost anything because you can pull them out of circulation, and are fun to collect. Try to...

One box of nickels produced the following: 2-40,3-41,1-41D,1-46, 2-47, 1-48D, 1-49, 1-49D, 2-52, 1-53, 1-53D, 1-54, 1-54D, 1-56, 4-48D, and 1-49....

Thanks, but it is a lamination, not a die chip.

Those notes with the same serial numbers are also "binary" notes. Meaning that the serial number contains only two distinct numbers. There are...
I collect minor errors just for kicks. You can go into any coin store and buy specific coins to fill albums. But try and put a collection together...
I went through a box of nickels last week. Here are the best finds: 1-1938, 3-1940, 2-1941S, 2-1941, 1-1947, 2-1952, 2-1953D, 2-1954D, 2-1955D,...
