It's interesting that the cut next to TRUST is only on the obverse. The cuts above LIBERTY look like wire cutters caused them.
The die was chipped where you see it on the coin. It does not come from a different place.
I'll guess 67 wanted to say 68. Big jump in value.
What is the date on the cent and what grade is on the holder?
Maybe a piece from a broken die. Could have been junk that was stuck in the die and it fell out and was pressed into the coin. We won't ever know...
I can't think of a reason for any engraving tools to be anywhere near a coining press.
