Note that the rim is gone. That tells you the coin was ground down, machined. It's just damage. No way it left the mint in this condition.

This image is from CoinFacts. Variety 1 would make your coin 1867 or 1877. Variety 2 would make it 1887 or 1897. Image went poof. I'll try again.
