Yeah, TIFF files are considerably bigger. I can imagine image hosting sites and the like would prefer the smaller JPEG files.
Nobody did away with TIFFs. Their use is very common, particularly in the printing industry.

Yes! Acetone will literally eat away at the surface of an aluminum coin.
