I have had good luck selling them on craigslist for a little more than face. I have a guy that buys them and half dollars from me all the time.
I agree they are only worth melt value which is about $10 - 10.50 per coin

Yeah buy them at any bank other than your primary bank, then only deposit them to your account. Never ask them to cash the coins for ya.
