I guess I see it simpler. If it got stuck they wouldn't use it. As the rim is formed the planchet is made narrower so it needs to grow smaller....

If the flips contain PVC and you notice damage, the damage is done. @Randy Abercrombie is correct, be safe-not sorry.
Best to change them out rather than risk damage to your coins.
That coin has been cleaned and very harshly at that. You can do much better even if it costs more.
