Small date has a weak strike on the Liberty; large date would have a normal strike on Liberty.
Several ways actually. One is that the die maker uses the wrong letter punch to strike the die face, notices his error, grabs the correct punch...
Agreed, hard to see how weak Liberty is from the photos; looks about normal though...that is my only concern.
