I prefer to buy slabbed coins for two reasons: 1. I want to be sure the more expensive items are authentic. 2. I want to know the grades on less...
One or more of the TPGs have gotten REALLY fussy about 6 full steps. Your coin is certainly "full steps" by the 5-step standard. But to be 6 full...
I can't find any listed on eBay. Good thing I'm going to a coin show in a couple weeks.
GLOVES: Most sources recommend lintfree cotton gloves first, latex second. And, yes, powder-free on the latex gloves. TONING, CORROSION & CARBON...
I've never held a raw rarity. Wouldn't want to. My hands would start to sweat and shake. I could easily cost the owner a couple thousand. I've...
Strike is strong. No obvious wear. Surfaces look proof-like, but that could be your lighting. Is that a die crack on the reverse through the...
North America (like you, born there; as far north as Fairbanks, Alaska[1963]; as far south as Panama[1981,1994]) Europe (UK, Germany[1947],...
I think this is a good example of the "orange peel" effect. Caused by using the dies too long. If it is, keep the images handy. Textbook case.

And just in time to buy at the high point of the Lincoln market. :(
I agree (almost) completely. Not all people will be laughing. (Guess who won't.) The Bicentennial quarter example is excellent.
And 2x2's are NOT for long term storage. Consider something like Airtites. More expensive, but are good for the long term.
Don't know (can't remember) if this is my worst, but recently there was a coin that "got in my eye." HAD to have it. Cost me $400. Then went over...
I don't collect older halves. Got a few for my typeset. I like the overdate. Quite interesting. Looks like they re-engraved the "2" but just...
walterallen, good looking set in the Capital(?) holder. They all appear Unc. mark_h, also a nice set. I particularly like the holder. Certainly...
The obverse shows hints of being cleaned (lines running in 2 to 8 o'clock direction.) But, hey, for that date/mm I could accept that.
I always love the RARE coins that start for 99 cents or some other nominal price. No reserve, of course.
