A father and his two sons. 'Either my sons will succeed me, or no-one will!' - Vespasian. [ATTACH] Vespasian AR Denarius Ephesus mint, 71 AD...
I have a Titus as Caesar duplicate that has been assigned its own RIC number. This denarius features an engraver's error in the obverse legend....
IMHO, Domitian's head is indeed lifted upward on the coin shown, similar to Constantine's portrait. Definitely an interesting style.
Both coins have their charms to be sure, but the newest acquisition has an extraordinary portrait, one of the best of Pompey I've seen. Wow.
Mattingly called it "lofty aspirations" in BMCRE II. However, I think it's dangerous to speculate and ascribe more importance to an engraver's...

Oh wow! Wonderful, wonderful!! Just a quick glance and I already see a rare Divvs Vespasian denarius. The tensa facing right is extremely scarce....
This is a rare type struck for Domitian as Caesar by Vespasian in 76/77, RIC 920. Interestingly, it is described in the new RIC as Minerva "on...
You are quite welcome! The obvious question would be who or what are the two figures? Ian Carradice in Coinage and Finances in the Reign of...
Yes sir, those are the figures. They get by many collectors and dealers simply because of their size and it only takes a small bit of wear to make...
