The 1909P-1DO-002 is notorious for being misidentified, because there are many coins with the same die chip in the B of LIBERTY as well as other...
Thanks folks. Doing my best to educate in anyway I can. Might do a machine doubling vs die deterioration doubling vs actual doubled die tutorial soon.
I was responding to the OP in this case.
It is actually a recessed area on the die caused by scraping of a tool or something else. It is raised on the coin, not the die.
Pearl Harbor isn't on the main island. ;)
That is damage. A gouge is recessed in the die, meaning it would be in relief on the coin. Smething simply scratched your coin, so it would be...
Hi all. Doing a little tutorial on the difference between a misaligned die error and an off-center strike, as the two have a similar appearance...

If the obverse was ground down with a sander or through some other method, I would imagine that there would be damage to the rim as well. Since I...
Looks like a really nice struck-through grease cent to me. $10-20 on a good day on ebay. Keep up the hunt!

Looks like the coin took a hit or something left a small gash. Damage nonetheless. Keep up the hunt!
Pictures are too pixelated/blurry for me to tell. My gut says damage, but clearer photos may reveal otherwise. Keep up the hunt!

Some sort of damage, but PMD nonetheless. Keep up the hunt!
Not a rare coin. You have a coin struck by a deteriorated die. I don't kow what you mean by FBMS-65. Please try and educate yourself on errors and...
Tough to tell for me. I am seeing die deterioration on the coin, but I think I also might be seeing splits. Not quite sure...
I honestly don't have the slightest clue if the errors/varieties are there...we would need closer pictures. I wouldn't worry about handling the...
The ear took a hit. For some reason, this is a common place for damage on Lincoln Cents...this coin is not a doubled die. Keep up the hunt!
I don't see it, either, unfortunately. Keep up the hunt!
