Scanners will only work for straight on ob/rev shots but I use my Epson V37 for this purpose. It has lot's of bells and whistles to make good...

It all depends upon the fire rating of the safe and time elapsed. Some fire rated safes can be rated as low as 350 degrees which is nothing....
