Very common, yes as Paddy stated.
You’re only looking at the top of the last digit. The overdate is clear down the right side of that last digit making it fairly straight.
Probably a die chip or something similar. If that’s the base of the 1 where is the rest of it? A small piece would be sticking out of the top left...
