Welcome. Looks like a G-VG. Worth a few bucks.
I don't think anyone should be "eating crow", but it certainly is a good learning experience and I am sure Rick took something away from it.
Is the other side off-center as well? If not, then it is a misaligned die error and not an off-center strike.
Welcome. :) Your coin appears damaged (not an error).
I love this DDO, because when I first started out roll hunting and was getting miss after miss trying to identify doubled dies, I stumbled across...
No, just providing a very useful link...I have it bookmarked on my computer so I can read up on the different types of errors in my spare time.
Hmmm...pictures are a bit out of focus, but I'm leading towards PMD...could you retake some photos with the coin centered and focused?
In all honesty, at least what I can see from the pictures, I have no idea how you came to the conclusion that this was a die clash...I don't see...
It looks damaged to me. Here is a really good website that has a database of many different error coins you may find in your searches...I would...
While the price isn't too bad, if you are looking to get coins just to "add variety" to your collection, why not save up for some problem-free...
PMD.
Doesn't look like the exact correct shape of a D, I'm leaning towards S...
That's fine, just letting you know what the site you linked says. When you show it to jim m, potter, etc let us know what the verdict is.
Rick, what that site says is a piece of foreign matter got stuck in the striking chamber and was struck by the dies, retaining part of the design....
But that doesn't make any sense. If metal was stuck to the die, it would be a strike through, not a coin with extra metal stuck on it. And that...
Again, Rick, what you are not understanding is there is no more metal on a coin with a die clash than there is on a coin that is struck with...
My post referenced something, such as epoxy or another substance, NOT METAL, that got stuck to the coin post-mint. I never said metal, and I'm not...
Don't open that bag of worms, Jay... :D I think this is the thread rascal is referring to....
An extra dome on top of a dome wouldn't really indicate a die clash, a die clash shows a reversed and flipped image from the opposite side, not...
But if it were a damaged planchet, surely it would have been flattened out once it entered the striking chamber and was put in between 2 steel...
