Whizzing is done to make a coin look better, and in some cases to mimic luster. This is one of the photos you get if you Google "whizzed cent"...
I vote for acid, whizzing is much more "rippley"

The only real point in slabbing any coin is to assure authenticity and increase the price. I think the price break for most coins is around $200.
