Bank box roll searching will yield plenty of these in most denominations. Not so much easily found in random pocket change.

I don't have one handy to compare to but if so, then I would guess an over polished die.
It took awhile but looks like all is ending well, even after the frustration. Like a grain of salt, I would toss it over my shoulder. But that's me.
And this is why I do a complete clean up every night. It's a pain in the dupa but it does help.

Did you notice the small chips on the "S" in Pluribus? The die that made these was long overdue to be removed from production.
They did a better job of this back in the 1800's. What a mess these were.
The rest of the edge should say "E. Pluribus Unum" and the date and mint mark. Some of these were made wrong with missing lettering or no...
I've also found several with chips on the roof but not the others yet. I just ordered a bag of 100 from the Mint ("P") so I've got my fingers...
