Probably a die chip
A coin can not wear sitting as you explained but it can easily tone. Any toning is not wear and does not affect the grade.
A wonderful example of a Colonial coin, a New Jersey copper.
That’s a beautiful Washington and the toning is Gorgeous!
I’m not sure what I like more, the coin itself, the toning or the die clash. Very beautiful and pleasing. :):)
Man, shame about that reverse damage but that is a beautiful looking coin. As you said, not an FBL, but who cares? The toning is wonderful.
No it doesn’t but that type of toning makes it difficult, at least for me. I said proof 64 but I’m sure it’s higher.
Only harsh to my eyes. It’s difficult for me to look at the coin. Molted toning does that to me. No offense meant.
Good to hear!
That’s what I’m thinking. Yes, some are better than others but that is a very nice set and I think it would be a shame to break it apart.
Looks like damage to me.
Very nice looking coin and I agree with the Fine grade. Having said that I think it would be in your best interest if you took some pliers and...
I wouldn’t sell anything on eBay due to their policies. Sorry this happened to you.
I’m probably way off but that toning is harsh to my eyes so I said Proof 64.
Can you grade the set as is?
It’s takes a long time to learn about coins. I’ve been at it for over 63 years.
Sorry but I’m just not seeing it.
Whatever it is it appears to be on the surface. It’s not raised and it’s now below the surface.
You just don’t think about it. It’s happened to all of us. Some times it’s left, some apologize and leave it alone and others edit the other posts...
A nicely toned quarter that’s worth face value.
