Mike, What do you make of the starburst pattern in the fields? Is that also a product of the thin planchet?

It's obvious that you have not handled many off metal coins... You look at a lot of pictures that's for sure tho. The coins you posted are genuine...
Sometimes when they roll the strips out before blanking they don't get them to the right thickness... and if a coin is blanked out of this thicker...
I agree with Conder %100. I don't see any indication that this piece is struck on any other planchet besides the one it was intended for...
#1 is die deterioration and the mark is post mint. #2 is a slightly misaligned die.
