It's not something you learn quickly. The easiest way to do it is to focus on one or two series for a while and really really learn to grade them....

I don't think it's an error... It just looks like it had a hard life. Maybe spent some time in the ground.

It could be an RPM, there are known RPM's for that year and mintmark, but it could also be a result of the replating which I believe happened to...
I agree that looks like a small lamination or strike through under the second 8. I don't think it was a result of any recutting on the die.
