Joe, I originally stated that these are indeed fingerprints. They are toning and that is what is making them visible.
That would be my guess as this is basically toning and it is missing from the highest points of the design.

what recessed areas? the relief is quite flat. IMHO those are definitely fingerprints. I say thumbed.

I only came across rolls of 2009 cents once this year. I bought 8 rolls and left 4 for others to have some. Then I sold 4 of them to the coin shop...
there is no reason to slab this coin. It's value doesn't justify any grading. Store it in an inert flip or a 2x2. Enjoy it. It's a nice coin.

I wouldn't grade the coin MS-65. The hair looks kind of flat and if that's not lint on the holder, there's a lot of marks for MS-65. Just my 2¢.
It looks to me like a long time ago this coin was "thumbed", a technique used on older silver coins to help hide incomplete strike or slight wear...

I agree 900. This coin has above average luster and strike. 1922 is a relatively common date, but this coin is a beauty!
