Welcome to Coin Talk , it's almost impossable to tell a coins worth , or even what kind it is without some pictures , can you get someone to help...
Also if a gouge did some damage by sliding across a coin the area wouldn't be smooth , there would be ridges from where the metal was ripped up...

Look for any tooling marks , also the denticles and rim should be about the same thickness , and if there are a lot of raised bumps in the fields...
