I'd say you chose well, Darkhorse, I see no marks on that coin at all. And, the thread didn't have a 'blast white' example yet. Very nice photos!

Is it the spice, or having to bust them up with the little wooden hammer and nutcrackers? (The rev. of the 1896 sort of reminds me of Old Bay)
Strangely enough, both of those came from Jeremy's (Airplanenut's) eBay site in separate auctions. They just sort of glommed onto me.
Since most of us will never own a genuine Continental Currency piece, that medal would be a nice substitute.
It looks like #2 to me. The 'cat's eye ' center to the mintmark looks right too. also, each mintmark position has a corresponding die rotation.
