I agree with @Oldhoopster . The flip appears to be a pvc flip which over time can damage the coin due to leaching from the flip.

You got really lucky with the old 5 dollar and CSA note. I really like the look of the five dollar bill.
Probably caused by a grease filled die. Very common and worth face to a couple cents depending on condition.
