I was taught that MD, is caused from a loose die and once the die is tighten the issue goes away . I see no split serif, just a loose die .......
I've tried to find either a DDO or a DDR with all 3 staging, the best I could find is EDS and MDS and what a difference . First image is EDS...
Staging is everything, once the mint starts to notice things going on with the die, out comes the grinder to fix the issues ....
It's just doubled, strong too .....

Wexler does have three listing and even this one ( wexler ) doesn't have a variety . Coppercoins is close too ......
