Don't pay any attention to the coin color for NGC slabs. In this case though, my coin pictures are actually pretty close.
I have another couple coming up I guarantee you will get the colors wrong. Part of it is that pictures (mine anyway) emphasize the red.

From what I can make out on that reverse, I would guess that it is from the die. I believe that die was badly rusted. Just look at the field...
