What Red Book you got? Mine only lists 65 as $1 or $0.50. Now NGC lists it as $630. I assure you, I paid a lot less.

Laminations ate not uncommon with woodies. Improper mixing by itself can be enough to cause the lamination. Impurities may even cause the mixing...
I am pretty sure that is lamination on that nickel and not damage.
