Some coin counters don't have bags for halves, so the machine isn't programmed to accept them. Ditto large dollar coins.
On my first quarter hunt, I found two silvers in about $300 or so in CWR (1934 and 1951). I just wanted to do a box as a litmus test to see if I...
I searched through my first box of quarters today and not surprisingly, I found no silver. I did however find one 1986 Canadian, which I kept.
I usually find at least one war nickel in every other box. It seems like there's a pattern with my boxes of nickels; one has at least one war...
This makes me tempted to go through one box in a few weeks, to see if I have any luck.
Also, some have found these in circulation, the 1996-W. Proofs are also good to find as well.
If you do a box of quarters, I'm curious to see if you find any silver. I tried nearly $500 in CWR and was skunked, save for 18 possibly MS...
The obverse of the quarter from 1999 to 2009 gets my vote; they crammed so many words on it and Washington looked very cartoonish, in my opinion....
After $480 in CWR of quarters, I found nothing but a 2009 Canadian and 18 quarters from the '70's that look like they came straight from a mint...
Out of $30 in CWR of Halves, I found one 1967 Kennedy.
From an envelope full of Ikes, I found a clad 1973-S proof.
After one box of nickels, I found: *Two War Nickels (both were 1943-P) *17 early Jeffersons, oldest was 1941 *Five Canadian and one Bermudan...
I've been wondering this for a while; relative to modern U.S. coins, how big were the quarter eagles, half eagles, eagles, and double eagles?
Some people search for halves that weren't intended for circulation (1970 [which is also silver], 1987, 2001-P, and every year since 2002) and proofs.
Nickels are by far my favorite coin to search. I love finding either a buffalo, a war nickel, or any early Jefferson.
From different teller's trays, I found two 40% halves (1968-D and 1969-D) and a 1987-S proof.
Oh boy was I incredibly lucky today... I had planned on searching through $500 in quarters today but at the first bank I went to, I asked if they...
Yesterday, I asked a teller at a TD Bank if she had any halves and she said she had one. It turns out it was a 1968-D.
Today, I went through $280 in a combination of CWR and bank-wrapped rolls ($200 CWR, $80 BR). I found five silver Roosevelts in the CWR's (1948,...
I asked if a teller had any halves today and she said she did. I then asked her to put what she had on the counter and I bought a 1963 Franklin...
