I’m thinking about buying or trading this 8 real coin from a coworker. Any comments on it’s value and authenticity?
My spending limit is usually $100-$200. Anything above that will get me in trouble. :mouth:

I’m pretty sure some test pattern coins where struck on aluminum in the late 1800’s. I just cant remember what. Aluminum was a precious metal back...

I’ve never see a 72s but I’ve plated several coins myself. I had a good time taking them to the bar. :D
It looks pitted to me, like it was sand, bead blasted or maybe put in an industrial part tumbler.

Yes, I see dark areas around the raised spots.
I wouldn’t recommend using acetone on copper or bronze coins. It can produce some odd colors. Then again…
I worked up the metal value of all the circulated US coins. The prices I found this morning are: Copper $2.62lbs, Nickel $7.57lbs, zinc $1.29lbs....

Nope. Their pretty ugly coins IMO and it would be out of character for my collation to have a commemorative coin that's worth more than I paid for...
