It seems that these two coins were struck with the same obv die 12 years apart. The 1920 just seems to have more die cracks. What do you think?...

Catalog refer to three type 1889 3 pence types, proof, prooflike and circulated. Which is this?
The 25 cent KM 11 series are expensive coins with relative high mintages. Sorry for my ignorance, but why is that?

Yes, harsh cleaning is very common with these coins. I have many specimens and have seen many in museums. When you buy a Peru sol, 1. a good coin...
I live in South America and only buy proper certified US coins with no exception since, 1. I do not know US coins well enough to see a good fake...
From a technical point your are correct, but what you do not see on the photos (do not have correct light) is the patina showing more clearly...
