I think Nickels are a good coin to start on. Not only can you pull silver, but also Buffalo, Liberty and proofs as well.
Also to add to the zinc mining. If pennies are discontinued in the near future all the zinc used to mint pennies will not be needed.

Exactly why it is worth it in a way to collect copper pennies, however collecting Nickels for bullion just isn't worth it one bit IMO.
