They are neither errors nor varieties, they are simply toned. If a untoned woody was well preserved, you would not be able to detect the improper...

Not off-center, it's a MAD (Mis-Aligned Die), very common and it doesn't add a premium unless it's so far off that design elements are missing.
Definately a weak attempt at a fake. It's a 1944-D that was altered and then someone tried to conceal the alteration with fake toning.
