IMO it's not a D. Whatever made the impression in the center, pushed the other metal around to form a rim, and it just coincidentally looks like a D.
I think the size of the lam is nice, a keeper. Could add a little value to a collector. Nothing outrageous.

The damaged coin on the scale is not a 43, perhaps a 42. The other 1943 in the OP appears to be plated over.
In regards to posts 25 and 26. Not just toned. But strongly visible clashes on both sides.

The color and texture of the last 2 photos don't look like a nickel. Perhaps take some normal lighting photos next to some nickels.
