I don't doubt you Doug, but how could you distinguish post strike adjustments from damage?
Some info here. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/adjustment-marks-on-coins.201682/
How does Contursi keep getting high end '94s. He owned the magnificent SP-66 example which now holds the record for the highest price ever paid...
Those are adjustment marks made to the planchet to correct the weight before striking. These marks do not factor into the grade of the coin since...
If I remember correctly, somebody bought a run of proofs from one of those tv guys, submitted a bunch of coins and got back the PR-70. They sold...
I don't know maybe a little generous, but the grade doesn't seem too of to me. Don't forget that these were often poorly struck. Look at what is...
Send it in for reconsideration with the slab intact or just leave it be. I wouldn't risk it if it has a clean grade now.
I don't see any reason why it wouldn't cross, but I wouldn't expect it to upgrade much if at all. The 1921 is a different animal than most Peace...
I'm at XF-40, but I'm curious if PCGS considered the mark on the chin damage or adjustment marks. And I agree that it was dipped and retoned.
I believe your gut is correct unless there is some territorial that I'm not familiar with.
Not all of them. These come from a set that i bought from Greg about a year or so ago. Some in the group are proofs, but many are business...
68 seems very generous to me.
It even looks smaller than my half cent. [ATTACH][ATTACH][ATTACH]
The coin is nice and all, but I love that you have introduced your kids to the hobby the most.
I've been holding onto my Doug like image for a while now, but I guess it's out there. Is this going to be another one of those times that...
Plenty of blue Jeffersons out there. Beautiful set so far.
Personally I wish that Doug did work for a TPG, then we could have some consistency. His grading is in line with what it always was until...
I'd say you could find a better price for a raw coin, but if you want it slabbed, this isn't a bad price.
Large cents seldom show any luster in grades less than MS-64 or so. $145 isn't really bad, but I'd call that full retail for the coin.
Looks authentic to me, just weakly struck.
