p.s. To really answer your question: Most business struck prooflike moderns don't appeal to me -- primarily because proofs of such high quality...
"which one would you choose and why?" Whichever one appealed more TO ME because I buy coins because I like them.
That AU example has significant luster gone in the fields, the MS coin in question doesn't -- at least the way I interpret the photos.
What reasons didn't they work then?...Mike (who was 3 at the time)
p.s. I would grade it 62 or 63 from the photos -- no way PCGS grade a coin with that much unbroken luster in the fields AU. No way.
I can't say I agree with the 64 grade, but AU 55 seems a bit harsh, even for scrooge. ;) DISCLAIMER: Making grade guesses, particularly on...
"I don't have any idea what causes toning like this on gold. " While I have no first hand experience on the topic, I have been told by more...
"This coin belongs in an AU holder, period." I'm sure you realize that NGC doesn't technical grade, and rub on the knee doesn't preclude an MS...
(now looking at the grade) BINGO! :)
I guessed 63, but quite candidly, I'm having a great deal of trouble guessing given the (relatively) low quality photographs.
For the vast majority of them -- I would pay no premium. Like you said, finding toned Morgans ain't tough -- there are many thousands and...
Looks like a liner 64/65 coin to me. I guessed 64, but wouldn't be surprised if NGC gave it a bump to 65 for the color.
Congrats, Lehigh. I'm glad you like it! :)
p.s. Also, be VERY carefuly, trying to make grade judgements from photographs (much less the crappy Heritage photographs). Try and only draw...
They both look accurately graded to me. Coin #1 wasn't a 65 because of the hits on the obverse (look at the large photos that show the slab, as...
Cool VAM and wonderful closeup photos!
Four nice coins, but I must comment that coin #1 is simply the perfect brown lincoln, IMO. Gorgeous coin!
Congrats & thanks or sharing!
p.s. I had originally guessed 62 no cam, but changed my guess. Note to self: go with gut.
That's a good point, and one that's lost on many collectors. IMO, the facts are that the TPGs are far more lenient when it comes to...
