Perhaps a combo. Tilted die and greaser. The irregular depth of the rim suggests a tilt and the missing details probably attributed to grease....
There's circulation damage, but there would be a berm I think if it were pushed material.

I've found 2 nickels during CRH events. They get released to the wild occasionally and end up in a collector's hand.
I would randomly select a few rolls to sample the population you have there. If I didn't find anything of merit, I'd stop there.
