I'd argue the 2000 wide am being the least rare, I've found 4 1999 wam vs 2 2000 wam but that's my personal opinion.
I can see that explanation, sadly that may make the coin worth considerably less in the future.

If you have a scale that measures grams this coin should weigh 2.27 grams if it is significantly less than that maybe , I think something was done...
