True. But there are 89s with the appearance of an 88 reverse due to excessive die polishing. That was realised years ago.
Don't know the die state numbers only know the 1988 rev of 89 and the 1989 rev of 88. I have found both and sold them on eBay probably 10 years...
Not rare, scarce. I've found a few.
Keep searching. I found a few when I was checking all my 88s and 89s.

Yep. Now days if you want to collect coins you must also educate yourself in counterfeit detection of coins as well as slabs.
