The obverse is more than likely a defect in the planchet.

Nice looking set. It shows what worn dies can do to a coin. The reverse on the quarter looks like a strike through to me. Probably a piece of wire. :)

The Red Book puts out a book on Morgan Dollars. It was written by David Bowers. As for a loupe, anything over a 10x is considered a waste.
And the coin is new and damaged. Did you notice his screen name? It’s a hoot!!
I do not think it would be worth the expense to do so.
