To clarify, this is the most recent high-grade Gobrecht Dollar available from China. It is fairly good.
Most of the coins appear genuine upon cursory glance. Whether or not this is just one huge scam, I guess we’ll see. I placed a few bids myself :)

As a rule, the 57th St. Hoard coins are grossly overgraded. It is rare to see one properly graded, and I have yet to see one that was undergraded....
There is no bend in the seller’s picture, and there is a bend when I got it. The bend happened during shipment because it was not properly packed....

I found that the coin looked pretty ugly with the naked repair, so I covered it up as realistically as I dared.
The foot was literally bent to the breaking point within the package. It bent pretty far without breaking, so I’d say that there was no previous...

My rationale: If I bid my absolute max and get totally nuked, then I just walk away. It just means I have more money for the next big thing. :)
The reverse really gives it away. The fields have full luster, but the devices have VF/EF detail. This is a fake.
Yeah, those are terrible. You should have sent them to me for proper disposal. ;)
Another update: I am currently in negotiations with the seller. Things should turn out okay. :)
