Sorry to hear @mlov43 but you gave it an honest effort.
A pleasing to the eye, golden nickel.
I could be wrong. It's happened at least one time before. :D
MS 63 ... the obverse is a bit crusty while the reverse is nicer...rattler holder makes me think they would not have gone higher than 63
Here are a few that are now in my type set album (all cracked): [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] NGC XF Details Obverse Scratched [IMG] [IMG] PCGS...
That was a gift of a grade. At most they netted it down 1 point (even without the scratch, I don't see it as more than a 65) which is unfortunate.
I went for some similar examples for my type set (album); some details coins can definitely be acceptable when they still have sharp features and...
AU Details Environmental Damage ...nice look to it and a good addition to a type set
You are very correct. Coins with an established pricing history tend to be easier to look up and have an idea at what levels you can make a quick...
Looking at it again, I think it still straight graded (net grade). If it went above 63, that isn't right in my view as that type of scratch should...

We probably won't know until PCGS regrades it and the person shares the new grade. Then again the person could end up keeping it as the ultimate...
Awesome group of Hungarian items! And I liked the Hawaii, USSR, and Irradiated Dime sprinkled in (being a Hobo makes it even cooler). I hadn't...
@charley and @Publius2 articulated it well. My generic answer/vote is "not at all" but I admit there are exceptions. If it's someone you know and...
They might have graded these on a curve as plenty had issues directly from the US Mint from what I read others reporting. Also, moderns don't...
I like #2 best (raw full steps) #1: MS 66 5fs ...the orange peel texture below the chin and below "Unum" are a bit distracting; there are also...
MS 66 RD ...this seems comparable to the last one; clean and lustrous (and I'm guessing just missed a 67)
I guessed MS 66 RD before the reveal (no Ed Wood shenanigans here :p). It looks quite mark free and lustrous.
Glad you were able to pick it up. Welcome to the club. :D
That was my thought too. Reading the other replies I’m convinced by the lacquer group.
