If it was an altered 1924, I would expect to see tooling marks of some kind near the 2nd "1". I don't see any indication of that. Plus, the 9 is...
I agree with the others. The font of "In COD" (and that's what it says, LOL) is wrong and the 2 is wacky. I'm no expert, but I do collect Mercs....
My question is, "WHY????"
The slab is fake also.
I hope to see an upcoming article from you about these. I enjoy reading your Coin Week articles that show up on my Facebook feed. It's easy to...
Did you see the "Composition: Silver" towards the bottom? The old saying holds true: Investigate before you invest. This seller is either...
I wouldn't call that coin "BU", and I certainly wouldn't want it, and DEFINITELY not at that price! 1924 is a very common date. I MIGHT be...
This is absolutely true...once I found a used airline ticket, I think maybe in a book, I don't recall, in really nice shape. The person's name on...
But the OP's coin had the RIGHT C missing.
The last one I found to complete my circulated set was the 1953-S, and it took me a while. It's funny, because the 1953-P and the 1955-P are...

I've been wanting to make a type set of coins from the years my parents were born, but my dad was born in 1921...except for the Morgan dollar, the...
There was a thread about this coin about 5 1/2 years ago. 1855 Large Cent variety question | Coin Talk @Mark Metzger posted it.

The OP's coin is of a different type and doesn't have the word on it, unfortunately.
I agree that it looks like it may have been cleaned. But do bag marks (which I'm assuming caused the rim dings) cause a coin to not get a...
The 1919 SLQ is worth quite a bit more than melt. Maybe $30 to $40. You don't see many SLQ's minted before 1925 with nice full dates like yours.
As Gary Drayton would say, "Holy Shamoly, all right!" What a find!
