Looks like a normal 1965 Philadelphia cent. Is there anything in specific you wanted to know about it?
Face value, unless very high grade. If they came from circulation they are probably worth one cent and five cents. You can always post pictures...
Heat will do that to a zinc cent too.
The R does not stand for Ryder, that makes no sense at all, it marks the coin as a replica.
It has just been coated with something and it is peeling off. Could be paint or actual plating.
One of my favorite coins, honoring Churchill, one of the most important people of the 20th century.
No, it isn't, totally different variety. 23 1/2 may have started out without a coulter but had one added. 23 1/2 is closer stylistically to 22...
I did a little reading on 23 1/2-R. Obverses 23 and 24 were the only obverses known paired with reverse R before the discovery of 23 1/2. Even...
Couldn't tell you why, but there is a picture in Whitman's encyclopedia. Will check my copy of New Jersey State coppers later tonight, any...
It is listed in Whitman's encyclopedia of Colonial and Early American coins. It was discovered in 1895 and is not really similar to obverse 23....
I think there are only about three known even though the variety was first identified in the 1890's. The highest price one brought was a little...
I see the 2 cent slot and 3 cent nickel slot are empty, they can be had in decent condition for not a lot of money and are quite interesting.
Just in case you do find a valuable coin, do not shine it up! Probably one of the worst things you could do to a collectable coin.
I do have one Oak tree shilling and one pine tree shilling. I couldn't afford problem free coins but I don't mind. Love yours, if I can get one...
As explained in this thread, no mintmark means common Philadelphia minted coin. If yours is from a proof set then it is the valuable one.
OK I will try. Breen's Encyclopedia of US and Colonial coins, Whitman's Encyclopedia of Colonial and Early American coins, The Colonial...
Wish I could go, but have to work.
Sorry to say that is definitely a poor fake. Look above the E in excelsior, there is an "R" for replica. But even without this it is a pretty...
Please do post pictures, it would be very exciting if a new one showed up. All known specimens are accounted for so if genuine it would be a new...
Picture is not good, but I see some interesting coins, a steel cent a well worn buffalo nickel and a few wheat cents. Not much value to them, but...
