I don't like it. It is just too blazae. But would show a nice die clash when you can find it....
A few more coins and that die is out of there. Great one to find in BU.
1929?
Thanks Dick! That is only one of my obsessions. LOL
Give a little, take a lot.
For Them! LOL
Sounds like a bilk the poor, make money selling it to the rich scheme. It happens everywhere.
I guess we are the only ones who notice. The die is probably still in tollerence with the mint's standards. Seems like they don't get too excited...
Its a die chip. The die is crumbling in this area and the more coins it strikes it just gets worse. It happens.
Machine doubling. If it where a doubled die the devices would be wider and the dots would be egg shapped. [IMG]
It appears to be a die scratch on the lower mark. You can see it intersect on the opposite side of the 3 in the date.
More like double struck. Still love to see double on anything. Maybe I need new glasses. LOL
Is this the F near the date your talking about? [IMG] That is the designer initials under the date. "F"

Thanks Andrew. Something forgotten or never learned, but appreciate the information now. http://www.eyewitnesstohistory.com/washingtonsack.htm...
Here is something I've noted about the 1974 Large and small dates. The reverses are different: [IMG]
All I see is an over polishing of the die. The stronger lines flow over the mint mark area.
That was how the Capitol Building looked when Abe was in office. It wasn't finished yet.
I use a scope. I have a 10X and 16X, but they just collect dust. [IMG]
