Don't buy a 64 unless it looks like a 65. Don't buy a 65 unless it looks like a 66...And so on. They are out there. I don't do CAC but it might...
I'll check out some 23-D's online tonight and maybe post something tomorrow for you to check out.
PCGS has never seen a 23-D it didn't like so be careful on condition. CAC likes them also and will bump for luster so again, watch condition...
I'd place coin dealers below televangelists & used car salesmen. Even Burnie Madoff got ripped off by one.
I find the saint $10 eagle kind of confusing because it's a boy with an Indian chief's headdress. Then they use the same face for lady liberty on...
I'm a little late on this thread. The 23-D is a weird saint because it tones well & can also have great luster. They are also common & available...
It was great until they killed it. Crackout dealers basically did it in.
I'm up against it now. My next coin is the 1929 so it's going to take me all this year and part of next to save up for it. 18 down and probably...

My most trustworthy place is Mint State Gold. Probably not the cheapest but I don't really care.
Invest in kittens like my mom;)
Wow...My set would be #1 As it is, mine is #8 on PCGS. Anything could be better than the old NGC registry page... So I do like it better.
I wouldn't trade you a loaf of bread for a 1927-D saint unless it was in plastic. How do you think I feel about bullion?
I think liberty has a nicer looking face on the original coin. And...I like toning
Pop of 16 in MS65 and none higher @ >50K so yes. Don't think the OP wants that. I'd go with a 1913-D over a 1913 because you can get one grade...
It looks very nice to me but my knowledge is limited to about a dozen saints MS63-66. When you consider coin collecting as a whole, that isn't much:p
Here is my pic for a 50/50 coin. (50% intrinsic value & 50% numismatic value) It's 4th hardest in a date set. This one will CAC in MS64 (I think)...
Here it is......
