Strips like this are not hard to produce by an experienced jeweler. These could be private issues, which I believe @Fred Weinberg suggested....

Definitely genuine. It had to be something very thin. It very likely could be part of a clad layer from another coin that was struck into it.

They are not impressions in the coin, though they can appear to be. It is just surface grime mixed with impurities (dust, etc.) that rolled over them
