Tough to get a feel for this one. I guessed 5, but anything from a 3 to a 6 would not surprise me.
I guessed 5r, but a 6 would not surprise me -- wondering if the discoloration on the obverse was there at grading time. I would expect the LDS...
XF details, cleaned AU 58 and very attractive.
FWIW, I think you make a fair point. The problem is that I (and others) have to read it thousands of times, and we already get it...so perhaps...
That would presume that I had "faith" in the TPG to begin with...and I do not. TPG graders are human, and like all humans, we are imperfect and...
When rotated under a light, it's the "cartwheel effect" that appears. The videos above show this well. In photos, it's often a bit more...
From XF to Mint State, it is the single most important factor (according to the TPGs), IMO.
I have no issue with spots in and of themselves, for what it's worth. Here's the (spotted) half cent from my typeset: [img][img] I was simply...
That would be a hasty and incorrect presumption, in my opinion. I'd guess the coin is an AU 62/63 (could go AU 58, could go 62/63).
The challenge with spots (and I've said this a few times, too) is that you never know when they showed up -- before or after grading. Red...
6r, but a 7 would not surprise me.
Very nice color and luster and originality, IMO. Looks like a solid 58 to my eye. One shortcoming of the coin is the spots -- they are viewed...

Hey Rzage, I've heard that somewhere before. :) I'm betting NGC said 67. A 66 would not surprise me though.
If low grade, I would agree with ANACS. In higher grade (say 64 and up), I'd go PCGS. That's simply a statement of resale value. IMO of course....
AG3 would be my guess. Maybe G4 if the planchet is really nice.
Indeed.
There are a few (and believe it or not, I count myself among those), however the coin is only mildly toned and the proof issues come much more...
"Ignore" or simply "value less"? I suppose my point, admittedly not well articulated, was luster counts more (according to the TPGs) when you get...
That is a very nice coin (prooflike and toned attractively), and I would send it to PCGS if I were you. I would expect a grade somewhere between...
