Thanks everyone! My favorite VAMs are those with big die breaks, large die gouges, strong doubling/tripling, clashed letters, etc. This is one...
Very cool! It looks broadstruck. Check the mint mark on the reverse. Most 89-O Morgans used a round O. The 1889-O "oval O" Morgan is a Top...
Picked up this 1900-O 29A Top 100 last week. What do you think it would grade? I'm usually off, but I was guessing between F15 and VF25?...
Thanks. I have 21 discovery coins (7 Peace and 14 Morgans).
Got this back from Leroy Van Allen yesterday. New discovery. [IMG] [IMG]
There was a PCGS 1888 PR65 Cameo that sold at FUN a year ago for $9,200. Another one... maybe the same one sold this year at FUN for $8,050....
Doubling on the date digits is fairly common. I use it more as a die marker to determine the die pairing... and VAM. I agree with GD about the...
Homework is more important. The 1880-O overdates on the Top 100 list are VAMs 4, 5, 6, 6A, and 6B. In mint state, most are worth 2x or 3x...
Yup. I guess what I'm trying to say is that most of the 1880-O's are micro O's. The 1880-O VAM 1 uses the micro O. When I hear the term...
According to the VAM Book, 1880 used two different "O" mint marks. I O Small O II O Tall oval medium O with narrow slit
The suspected fake micro O's were in 1896, 1900, and 1902. The "real" and wrongly used micro O was 1899. 1880 used the micro O as a standard...
VAM 5A. Oh, you were asking about a grade. MS63-PL.
I have two Streamer Wings. Bought them raw and had them slabbed at ANACS. I've seen images of a few more. They only show the triangle shaped...
Anyone recognize this one? [IMG]
SuperDave, your last coin looks like a 21-P 3K. What did I win? I like the 21-P 24A better (fomerly 3J)! Still looking for one of those.
Hey SuperDave, how about a full reverse shot of that 21-D 3A Streamer Wing? It looks like a very late die state.

Got a better image.... [IMG]
I can't tell. The 1889-O oval O is a Top 100 coin. There are only two 1889 oval O's.... VAM's 2 and 17. They both have the mint marks set high....
