Well...I'm willing to 'stick my neck' out on RPDs and MPDs, but I just don't know enough about DDRs. :)
Dunno...the MPD just isn't shaped right, and the date position is different too--the big markers. I can also see the hit in the middle of the...
Paddy, I'm sorry to say this...but I think your coin has just sustained a hit which looks very similar to the Snow-5 MPD. However, the actual MPD...
That's a strong DDO--really nice deal! :D
Oh yeah--the obverse die break looks like a match for Snow-16.
Wow--those are the oddest/coolest struck-throughs I've seen! :D
I look a lot for IHC MPDs. Whenever I see raised metal that stands out from the denticles, I also wonder if they're MPDs--because it is possible....
This is another find off eBay. It's described in the Snow guide as S-15: "1 and 88 in denticles", but I think I see an RPD at the base of the 1 as...
Yeah...it can be a practice in frustration. I also suspect those few SDs in circulation actually came from mint sets.
The 70-S small date is very tough to find in circulation, especially now. Before people started hoarding copper, the regular 70-S was very common...
Wow--that's a seriously worn die, especially the reverse!
I'd rather see closer pictures. Most likely it's not, but I wouldn't toss this one into the reject pile just yet--I can't tell for sure either way...
There's also a large number of diagnostic photos for FEs and IHCs here--some aren't in the Snow guides--and we keep adding new pictures. :) I...
Yeah...a big incuse "2" would have to be raised in the field of the die--pretty much impossible to be struck this way. Maybe it was a failed...
Yeah...it's tough to cherrypick anything, unless you already have an idea what you're looking for. So rather than scan coins for odd marks that...
The way the letters and digits distort towards the rim of the coin is what happens on a worn die.
Same photo = same data, just enlarged. If you can get closer/higher resolution...that could help. It's sorta important when there's a lot of crud...
I think we'll need a big enlargement in the date area to see an RPD...
It takes some experience knowing past sales of particular varieties to establish a ballpark value. Snow gives this variety "3 stars" which he says...
OK--I'm hardly a Lincoln expert--on second thought, that's just a punch defect (now I remember). I defer to your knowledge--see how that works? :)
