I agree -- I'd like to see 65s that look like that. My reaction to the coin you posted was that it looks more like what the TPGs grade 66 these...
Yes, you are missing the clean cheek. That's a TPG 65 all day long, IMO. $2.5k seems a bit steep, but Shane's free to ask whatever he wishes for...
Shane's got a good eye, he's a very good photographer, and he is a heck of a nice guy, too. :)
Weakly struck 45.
That coin looks like a 67 to me. It might be a 66 if it was graded recently and the coin has mellowed a bit (as it appears to have in the photo)...
If that ain't at least an NGC 67, I've not seen one. LOOK AT THE RIMS!
looks XF or AU. but sometimes this series even has MS coins that blur the lines between MS and AU. My guess is AU 50, but I could see anything...
0.154 -- get that guy a job at PCGS or NGC! Amazing!
A bit on the high side, but I don't see that price as too out of line -- particularly if you like the coin. It is, however, not an uncommon coin...
I've got a lot of favorites. This is one: [img] [img] Have fun...Mike
Pcgs/ngc 66 with a shot at ngc 67 depending on just how badly the obverse nicks show up in-hand under a light.
At the original auction price, I could see it, maybe. At $5k (at roughly 5.5x what a MS64BN, 2.5x a MS65BN, and 1/4 of a PR64BN), I think you...
That's a toughie.
Congrats, Marshall! :)
I was trying to predict what NGC graded the coin. My "real grade" is immaterial to this discussion as we all have our own standards...Mike p.s....
Others have given you solid advice, and I will not repeat them. My advice: Read this and other coin forums religiously for a year before diving...
Ruben, Remember, I'm a type collector at heart, so for me rarity doesn't overcome problems. You are, of course, free to choose differently....Mike
And here I thought I was the only one. lol
Compare the strike of the 1846 in this thread to this 1847: http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=1143&lotNo=3032 Or this 1844:...
